i feel like a proud parent

Foals live @ The Academy. Photos by Liz Maybury
Attention Klaxons! Listen up Hadouken!, Does it Offend You Yeah?, Youthmovies, The Enemy, The Pigeon Detectives. This is how to put on a show.

Foals take the stage and hour and a half after we arrive, but the floor is already jammed with 19-22 year olds. Those patient enough cling to the newly installed barrier (I think we can blame MGMT for that one) and have to stand through a painful support act. The atmosphere is hyped with a intro tune and the band (diminutive singer and guitarist Yannis, energetic guitarist Jimmy, bass player Walter, drummer Bevan and keyboardist Edwin - who State talked to recently) launch into album-opener ‘The French Open’.

From there, the band never let up, hitting the audience with ‘Cassius’, ‘Balloons’ and a fast, more raucous version of ‘Olympic Airways’. In fact, all of the songs played tonight were distinctly louder and crunchier than their Antidotes versions and were all the better for it. The album is full of horns (courtesy of Antibalas) but live Foals compensate by blaring their math-rock riffs into the crowd with intensity and propensity.

Dispensing with the real slow songs on the album, they perform fan favourites and early singles ‘Hummer’ and ‘Mathletics’. The crowd go mental. It’s great. The encore features the math-rock doppelganger of ‘An Dearg Doom‘.

Foals made an appearance and TV series Skins and the atmosphere in The Academy was akin to a house party. State awaits their return with glee.

went to see them at the academy last night, it was one of those life changing gigs, now in my top 5 of all time gigs...amazing...spellbinding, awe inspiringly good.

finished up the night in Zanzibar with Simon and Nici, doing a duet with Simon
Free- All right now

And it certainly was

a few quiet soups...and foals

friday night, lying on the couch, eating some dinner adn watching the 5th element for the first time i was content in the fact that i was spending the weekend in, alone and doing very little..i'd the whole thing planned out and organised to involve calm and tranquility, until i got a call from an unknown number...should have known..dermot o shea!

"well boss, want to meet me down in Nash's for some soup" his code name for "pints"

next thing i know its 5.30am saturday morning and tom and I are still up talking listening to the beatles "revolver" album trying to keep out eyes open and have a serious musical conversation...the night before involved, the hairy lemon, nashs, o neills, a random crap house party, messy maguires, 4dame lane, whelans and Zaytoons.

What pisses me off more than anything about being irish sometimes is some peoples racial ignorance..for example, while in 4dame lane, two guys have words, the white guy throws the first punch at the black guy, he fights back, EVENTUALLY the bouncers pull them off, and what do they do? they throw the BLACK GUY out...i was seething, so i went up to the bouncer and explained it was the white guy who started with the punches, the bouncer complete with cauliflower ears seemed a bit taken back by my statement and got me to repeat it which i did, and went outside with the white guy..those kinda situations just make my blood boil.

saturday i wandered around in a daze..and came home a few hours later, not sure what or where i'd been...slept for 13hrs saturday night and spent yesterday packing some of my stuff...

pusa weekend of madness this weekend coming so have to make LOTS of space for LOTS of people..

one good note to finish up on is working at elbow tonight in Vicar which I'm quite looking forward too...

restlessness

Today is April 17th....its now just two months to the day until we leave...and boy oh boy am I fit to kill..well just about everyone!

Now that the notices are handed in and work, well my motivation to care and do work is gone out the window (if it was ever really there to begin with)

Spring is FINALLY here, the weather is slightly warming up, still the odd hailstone shower and random flash flood, but we've had a few bright evenings recently and for the first time this year i finally saw Spring! I found it all the way out at Marley Park while waiting for the 16 bus back to town. It was green and fresh, with cherry blossoms on trees, it was still bright at 7.50pm and the sun even though setting gave the evening a warm balmy air....roll on nearly 35mins waiting for a bus and I was blue with the cold, but at least it wasnt raining!

passports are getting sorted THIS WEEKEND or im never gonna have it back in time...oh and had some exciting news from a friend, but cant say anything more than that because i dont know who reads this....jabs are next on the list of things to organise and then visas? think thats about it...we are in the home stretch..is that what they call it? fiji is taken care of, the € against the $ is fantastic, hopefully it will stay that way

14mins left until lunch time..and tomorrow is friday..and its not raining and im listening to "pioneer to the falls"

perfect

horoscopes can sometimes be right

and freak you out..completely..and confuse you even more so than you originally where

my star sign from yesterday read..now im a capricorn born, jan 20th, but im also on the cusp of aquarius..but this is the reading for capricorns which i think due to the time i was born makes me one!

"stick with good friends you can trust. pranks and mischief fill the air, so there is definitely safety in numbers. Watch your back. Someone may pounce, but if it brings what you want, lay back like a lamb. A soul mate scenario haunts the air with echoes of times gone by"

when i read this the hair on the back of my neck stood on end...it was 99.9% right! everything that happened and how i was feeling was right there on that piece of paper before my eyes

now in contrast this is what acquarius said...and i also want this to be true because put the two together and well.... :D

"love will always find a way. You can run, hide and wriggle and ignore it but prepare to be caught out before too long. The inevitable is by definition unavoidable. Brace yourself to be swept off your feet. Loss of control especially when this good, when its this exciting"

ooooooohhhh....now yes they are both accurate well capricorn moreso...but that doesnt mean they will happen..does it?

what lucky charmers do i need to keep under my pillow?

Curve Balls and being toasted

so it went better than i imagined...as scared as I was, the adrenaline and focusing on on patch on the wall got me through it, although i probably looked crosseyed..but alas my boss was surprising fine about my notice and thinks im making the right decisions and knew this wasnt the job for me, or so to speak.

well.i.never

so nici and i were delighted, it was pay day, it was raining but we donned some fancy frocks and ate some GOOOD mexican at Alamo...yum...we then went to 4 Dame Lane for a quick drink before trying to track down her brother joe, well turns out joe wasnt even in dublin, and we happened to run into nici's old friend from college and his friends, so after a couple of round of beer and ping pong, we ended up in whelans, although i ended up in the village by mistake..anyway...i ended up at a lock in with philliasfog in doyles, and proceeded to die a death saturday morning...

i soon recovered enough to go into town to get some fried chicken and some cds, namely the new foals album, love it, some songs are going to be growers, 4 of them immediately caught my attention..feist and bat for lashes..havent had time to spin them yet

i decided to go to a friends house party to catch up with some old friends...and man was i thrown a curve ball emotionally...perfect in everyway..perfect..sigh...im not going into details but curveballs...butterfly stomach...and laughing...

anyway..its april 1st..how much of this is through and how much of this is musings on my behalf..whats reality and whats fiction? does any read this or does anyone care...

who knows...i for one dont care..just my mindly musings in front of me so i can get them out of my mind and onwards and upwards to bigger and better things..right?
